Townhouses are undeniably some of the most sought-after properties by homebuyers. The fact that you can find townhouses in urban areas, rural areas, and the suburbs makes them appealing to a diverse set of buyers looking for practical housing solutions that meet their needs.

Unlike Condominiums, which in so many respects, resemble apartments stacked in buildings that can reach the sky, a townhouse is generally a 2-3 level single family building that shares one to two walls with adjacent properties but with its own entrances. Townhomes are generally larger than condominiums and offer the same independent small home look and feel of the traditional American neighborhood. Although some townhouses operate more like condominiums, most townhouses operate like traditional houses where the resident owns the interior and exterior of the unit, the roof, and the land, while the building is owned by a corporation and maintained by the homeowners association (HOA). Residents are also responsible for insurance and maintenance of the home and the property it sits on.

Both Townhomes and Condominiums are popular because they represent a less expensive option to traditional single-family homes of the same quality. For some this is the perfect lifestyle. For first time buyers, it is often a stepping stone to build equity and eventually transition into a single family home. Whereas condominiums offer more amenities and social activities within the confines of a condominium building or complex, townhomes offer more privacy and separation from neighbors with specific amenities located somewhere in the community, such as pools and clubhouses. Townhomes offer a great compromise between condominiums and the traditional single family detached American home...not too big and not too little, but just right.
